Firestick Hacks: 33 Safe Tweaks for Speed, Buffering and IPTV
Short answer: the best Firestick hacks are not jailbreaks. They are a few settings that make your Fire TV faster, stop buffering, free storage and make IPTV setup easier. Pick what you want to fix below, open each hack for the exact menu steps, and tick it off as you go. Your progress is saved on this device.
Every hack works on Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Stick 4K and 4K Max, and Fire TV Cube, on e& and du internet. Menu names can differ slightly between Fire OS versions.
-
Restart the Fire TV the right way
- Go to Settings, My Fire TV, Restart.
- Quick shortcut: hold the Select (centre) button and Play/Pause together for about 5 seconds until the screen goes black.
- Do this before a big match, and after any update.
Why it helps: A restart clears memory that builds up after days of use, which is the most common cause of a slow menu and stuttering apps.
-
Clear the cache of your player app
- Settings, Applications, Manage Installed Applications.
- Pick your player app (for example VU Player or IBO Player).
- Choose Force Stop, then Clear Cache. Do not choose Clear Data unless you are ready to add your playlist again.
Why it helps: Player apps store logos, EPG data and thumbnails. When that cache gets large, channel changes slow down and the app can freeze.
-
Reset an app that keeps crashing
- Settings, Applications, Manage Installed Applications, choose the app.
- Force Stop, then Clear Data.
- Open the app again. You will need to add your playlist again, or send us the MAC address and device key on WhatsApp and we will do it.
Why it helps: Clear Data returns the app to a fresh install without uninstalling it. It fixes most crash-on-open problems.
-
Uninstall apps you never use
- Settings, Applications, Manage Installed Applications.
- Open each app you do not use and choose Uninstall.
- Keep at least 1 GB of storage free for smooth live TV.
Why it helps: Every installed app can run updates and background services. Fewer apps means more free storage and memory.
-
Check how much storage is free
- Settings, My Fire TV, About, Storage.
- If less than about 1 GB is free, clear caches and uninstall unused apps (see the hacks above).
Why it helps: Fire TV sticks have small storage. When it is nearly full, apps slow down and updates can fail.
-
Turn off video and audio autoplay
- Settings, Preferences, Featured Content.
- Turn off Allow Video Autoplay and Allow Audio Autoplay.
Why it helps: The home screen stops playing trailers in the background, so the menu feels faster and uses less data.
-
Turn off Data Monitoring
- Settings, Preferences, Data Monitoring.
- Switch it off.
Why it helps: Data Monitoring tracks how much internet you use and can warn or lower quality. On unlimited UAE home plans you do not need it.
-
Mute app notifications
- Settings, Preferences, Notification Settings.
- Turn off notifications for apps you do not need, or switch on Do Not Disturb.
Why it helps: No pop-ups over the picture in the middle of a match.
-
Install the latest Fire OS update
- Settings, My Fire TV, About.
- Choose Check for Updates (or Install Update if one is waiting).
- Leave the device on until it restarts by itself.
Why it helps: Updates fix playback bugs and security issues. Many strange problems disappear after an update.
-
Update your player app
- Open the Appstore, go to your apps, and update the player app if an update is offered.
- If you installed the app from the developer website, download the newest version from the same official site.
Why it helps: Old app versions can lose features or stop loading playlists properly.
-
Check your Wi-Fi signal on the Fire TV
- Settings, Network.
- Highlight your connected network and press Play/Pause to see the connection status and signal strength.
- If the signal is weak or fair, move the router closer or use a cable (next hacks).
Why it helps: A weak Wi-Fi signal in the TV room is the number one cause of buffering, even on a fast fibre plan.
-
Connect to the 5 GHz Wi-Fi network
- Settings, Network.
- Choose the network whose name ends in 5G or 5GHz (many e& and du routers show two names).
- Enter the Wi-Fi password and connect.
Why it helps: 5 GHz is faster and less crowded than 2.4 GHz in UAE apartment buildings. It reaches less far, so it works best when the router is in the same or next room.
-
Use a cable instead of Wi-Fi
- Fire TV Cube has an Ethernet port built in. For a Fire TV Stick, buy an Ethernet adapter made for Fire TV.
- Plug the cable from your router into the adapter, then into the stick.
- The Fire TV switches to the wired connection automatically.
Why it helps: A cable removes Wi-Fi interference completely. It is the biggest single fix for buffering during peak hours.
-
Test your speed on the Fire TV itself
- Open the Silk Browser (install it from the Appstore if needed).
- Go to iptv.ae.org/iptv-speed-test and run the test, ideally between 8 PM and 11 PM.
- You need about 15 Mbps per HD screen and 25 Mbps or more per 4K screen.
Why it helps: Testing on your phone does not tell you what the TV gets. The verdict shows whether your line can handle HD, Full HD sport or 4K.
-
Restart the router in the right order
- Turn off the Fire TV, then the router.
- Wait 30 seconds, turn the router on and wait until its lights are steady.
- Then turn the Fire TV back on.
Why it helps: Routers that run for weeks without a restart slow down. Restarting in this order gives the Fire TV a fresh connection.
-
Use the original power adapter, not the TV USB port
- Plug the Fire TV into the wall with the adapter that came in the box.
- Avoid powering it from the TV USB port.
Why it helps: A TV USB port often cannot give enough power. Low power causes random restarts, warnings and weak Wi-Fi.
-
Keep the stick cool
- Use the HDMI extender cable that came in the box so the stick is not pressed against the back of the TV.
- Make sure there is air around it.
Why it helps: Fire TV sticks slow themselves down when they get hot, especially during long matches.
-
Set the right video resolution
- Settings, Display & Sounds, Display, Video Resolution.
- Choose Auto, or the resolution your TV supports.
- If 4K buffers and you cannot fix the speed now, choose 1080p for a smooth picture.
Why it helps: A wrong resolution can cause a black screen or flicker. Dropping from 4K to 1080p lowers the speed you need.
-
Match the frame rate (4K models)
- Settings, Display & Sounds, Display.
- Turn on Match Original Frame Rate if your model and TV support it.
Why it helps: Live sport and films use different frame rates. Matching them removes judder on smooth camera pans.
-
Fix washed-out colours (HDR)
- Settings, Display & Sounds, Display, Dynamic Range Settings.
- Choose Adaptive so HDR is used only when the video is really HDR.
Why it helps: Forcing HDR on normal channels can make colours look dull or too dark.
-
Fix sound and lip-sync
- Settings, Display & Sounds, Audio.
- Set Surround Sound to Best Available for most TVs and soundbars.
- If voices are out of sync, look for Audio/Video Sync Tuning in the same menu (on newer Fire OS versions).
Why it helps: Wrong audio formats cause silence on some channels or a delay between voice and picture.
-
Control the TV with the Fire TV remote
- Settings, Display & Sounds, HDMI CEC Device Control.
- Switch it on, and enable CEC (sometimes called Anynet+, SimpLink or Bravia Sync) on the TV too.
Why it helps: One remote turns the TV on and off and controls the volume.
-
Use your phone as a remote
- Install the Amazon Fire TV app on your iPhone or Android phone.
- Connect the phone to the same Wi-Fi as the Fire TV and pick your device in the app.
- Use the keyboard in the app to type usernames and playlist links quickly.
Why it helps: Lost remote, flat batteries or long playlist addresses: the phone app solves all three.
-
Pair a new or replacement remote
- Settings, Controllers & Bluetooth Devices, Amazon Fire TV Remotes, Add New Remote.
- Hold the Home button on the new remote for about 10 seconds until it pairs.
Why it helps: Useful for a replacement remote or a second one for another family member.
-
Pair a Bluetooth keyboard
- Settings, Controllers & Bluetooth Devices, Other Bluetooth Devices, Add Bluetooth Devices.
- Put the keyboard in pairing mode and select it.
Why it helps: Typing a login with the on-screen keyboard is slow. A small Bluetooth keyboard makes it a few seconds.
-
Turn off usage tracking and ads
- Settings, Preferences, Privacy Settings.
- Turn off Device Usage Data and Collect App Usage Data.
- Turn off Interest-based Ads.
Why it helps: Less data is sent from your TV, with no effect on what you can watch.
-
Set a parental PIN
- Settings, Preferences, Parental Controls.
- Turn them on and choose a 5-digit PIN.
- Choose which content and purchases need the PIN.
Why it helps: Stops children from buying apps or opening content you have not approved.
-
Mirror your phone or laptop to the TV
- Settings, Display & Sounds, Enable Display Mirroring.
- On an Android phone or Windows laptop, use Cast or Project and pick the Fire TV.
Why it helps: Handy for photos, video calls on the big screen or showing a presentation.
-
Stop the screensaver interrupting
- Settings, Display & Sounds, Screensaver.
- Change Start Time to a longer value, or Never.
Why it helps: Some player apps do not tell the Fire TV that video is playing, so the screensaver can appear during a match.
-
Show Developer Options
- Settings, My Fire TV, About.
- Highlight your Fire TV name and press Select 7 times until it says you are a developer.
- Go back: Developer Options now appears under My Fire TV.
Why it helps: Newer Fire OS versions hide Developer Options. You only need it if your player app is not in the Appstore.
-
Install your player app from its official site
- First check the Amazon Appstore: if your app is listed there, install it from there instead.
- If it is not listed, install the Downloader app from the Appstore, then in Developer Options allow Downloader to install unknown apps.
- In Downloader, type the official download address published by the app developer, install, and then switch the permission off again.
- Only install apps from the developer you trust. Never install unknown "builds" or modded apps.
Why it helps: This is how player apps that are not in the Appstore are installed. Turning the permission off again keeps your device safe.
-
Get your MAC address and device key for setup
- Open your player app (VU Player, IBO Player and similar apps show these on the first screen).
- Take a photo of the MAC address and device key.
- Send it to us on WhatsApp and we add your playlist for you.
Why it helps: MAC-based apps link your subscription to the TV through these codes. Any activation fee goes to the app developer, not to us.
-
Factory reset (last resort)
- Settings, My Fire TV, Reset to Factory Defaults.
- The device erases all apps and settings and restarts like new.
- Sign in to your Amazon account again and reinstall only the apps you use.
Why it helps: When nothing else helps, a reset removes everything that slows the device down. Note your player app details before you start.
No hacks match. Clear the search or pick another goal.

What we leave out, and why
Many “Firestick hack” sites are really about jailbreaking: installing unofficial apps, modded builds and VPN tricks. We do not recommend any of that. Unknown apps can carry malware, they break often, and some of them stream content without the rights to it. The only outside install on this page is your own player app, from its developer’s official site, when it is not in the Amazon Appstore.
You do not need a VPN for our service either; it works on e& and du as it is. See IPTV in the UAE without a VPN.
Setting up IPTV on your Fire TV
Once the device is running well, install a player app such as VU Player, HotPlayer, IBO Player, CR7 Player or IBO Smart Player, then send us the MAC address and device key on WhatsApp and we add your playlist. The full steps for every device are in our IPTV setup guide. Not a customer yet? Start with a free 24-hour trial or compare the plans.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best Firestick hack for buffering?
Use an Ethernet adapter, or at least connect to the 5 GHz Wi-Fi network, then clear the player app cache. Those three fix most buffering on UAE home internet.
Is it safe to change these Firestick settings?
Yes. Every hack on this page uses Amazon’s own settings menus. Only the factory reset erases your apps, and it is marked as a last resort.
Do I need to jailbreak my Firestick for IPTV?
No. You only need a player app. If the app is not in the Amazon Appstore, you can install it from the developer’s official site with the Downloader app, then switch the permission off again.
How do I make an old Firestick faster?
Restart it, uninstall unused apps so at least 1 GB is free, turn off autoplay, power it from the wall adapter and keep it cool with the HDMI extender. If it is still slow, a factory reset usually helps.
How much internet speed does a Firestick need for IPTV?
About 15 Mbps for HD and 25 Mbps or more for 4K, measured on the Fire TV at peak time. You can check it with our IPTV speed test.
