IPTV on Android TV Box in the UAE: Setup Guide (IBO Player, VU Player)
To watch IPTV on an Android TV box in the UAE, install a player app from the Google Play Store, open it to see its MAC address and device key, and link your playlist. Most households are watching within ten minutes. Send us a photo of the app’s start screen on WhatsApp and our support team adds the playlist for you.
This guide is part of our IPTV setup guide for every device. It works the same on e& and du home internet, with no VPN needed.
What you need before you start
- An Android TV or Google TV box (or a TV with Android TV built in), connected to the TV by HDMI and to your home internet.
- A Google account signed in, so you can use the Play Store.
- Your IPTV line. Not a customer yet? Start with a free 24-hour trial, no card needed.
- About 15 Mbps for each HD screen and 25 Mbps or more for 4K, measured on the box. For a whole household we recommend 50 Mbps or more. Check yours with our IPTV speed test.
Check your box is Play Protect certified
Do this first, especially with an unbranded box bought online or from a market stall. Google’s help page explains the check: open the Play Store, select your account picture, go to Settings and tap About, where it shows whether the device is Play Protect certified (Google Play Help).
It matters. In June 2025 the FBI warned that the BADBOX 2.0 botnet had infected more than a million home devices, mostly low-cost uncertified Android streaming boxes, TVs and tablets, and advised people to avoid unofficial app stores and “free streaming” apps (BleepingComputer). If your box is not certified, we suggest replacing it with a certified model rather than installing anything on it.
Which app to use on an Android box
Our support team works with five player apps: IBO Player, VU Player, HotPlayer, CR7 Player and IBO Smart Player. They are players only. They contain no channels until you add your line.
| App | How you add your line | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| IBO Player | The app shows a Device ID (MAC) and device key; the playlist is linked on the IBO Player website | Setup guides describe a 7-day trial, then a one-time fee paid to the developer |
| VU Player | The app shows a MAC address and device key; the playlist is linked on vuplayer.pro | Also available on smart TVs, iOS and Windows |
| HotPlayer | Add the details we send you inside the app | Needs Android 7.0 or later |
| CR7 Player, IBO Smart Player | Ask us on WhatsApp | We will walk you through the screen you see |
Any activation fee for a player app goes to the app developer, not to us. Our plans and prices are on the IPTV UAE plans page.
Step 1: Update and connect the box
- Run the system update (Settings, then System or About, then System update), then update your apps in the Play Store.
- Plug in an Ethernet cable if the router is close. Live TV cannot load far ahead the way films can, so a cable is the single biggest fix for freezing on match nights.
- On Wi-Fi, join the 5 GHz network and keep the box out of closed cabinets.
Step 2: Install the player from the Play Store
- Open the Google Play Store on the box and search for the app name, for example IBO Player or VU Player.
- Check the developer name and install it.
- Open the app once it has installed.
Stick to the Play Store or the developer’s official website. Do not install modified apps, “builds” or files sent by strangers.
Step 3: Send us the MAC address and device key
A MAC-based app such as IBO Player or VU Player opens on a screen with a MAC address (sometimes called Device ID) and a device key. Keep that screen open, take a photo with your phone and send it to us on WhatsApp at +1 304 618 5568. We link your playlist from our side, then you restart the app and your channels and TV guide load.
Prefer to do it yourself? The setup guides we checked describe the same flow: log in on the app’s website (iboplayer.com for IBO Player, vuplayer.pro for VU Player) with the MAC address and device key, choose Add playlist, paste your playlist link and save, then restart the app.
Step 4: Settings for a smooth picture
- Resolution: set the box to your TV’s native resolution. If 4K stutters while you sort out your speed, drop to 1080p.
- Frame rate: if your box has a “match content frame rate” option, switch it on; it helps with smooth motion in sport.
- Power: use the adapter from the box, not the TV’s USB port.
- Restart weekly: a quick restart clears memory and keeps the app responsive.
If it does not work
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| App not in the Play Store | Try another of our five apps, or ask us which one suits your box |
| Empty channel list | Restart the app. Still empty? Send us the MAC address again |
| Freezing during matches | Test speed on the box, switch to a cable, then follow our buffering fixes |
| A connection suddenly stops | An ISP occasionally blocks a server address. Message us on WhatsApp and our support team will help |
| Nothing loads on any device | Run the IPTV problem solver and message us |
Android box and a second TV
Each plan covers one screen at a time. To watch on the Android box and another TV at once, you need a second line; see how screens and connections work. Setting up a different device? Follow our Firestick guide or the Samsung and LG smart TV guides.
Test our service free for 24 hours on e& or du, no VPN and no card. If you like it, plans start at €7.95 a month, or €4.28 a month on the 14-month plan.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best IPTV app for an Android box in the UAE?
For the easiest setup, use a MAC-based app such as IBO Player or VU Player. You send us the MAC address and device key and we add your playlist, so there is nothing to type on the remote.
Do I need a VPN on my Android box?
No. Our service works on e& and du without a VPN, although some customers choose to use one. For the legal background, read is IPTV legal in the UAE.
Is the app free?
The apps install free from the Play Store. Some MAC-based apps charge a one-time activation fee after a trial period, and that fee goes to the app developer, not to us.
Can I use the same line on my Android box and my phone?
Yes, but not at the same time. One line plays on one screen at a time, so watching on two screens together needs a second line.
What internet speed does an Android box need?
About 15 Mbps per HD screen and 25 Mbps or more for 4K. For a household with several screens we recommend 50 Mbps or more. Our guide to IPTV on UAE internet explains e& and du plans.
Can I try it before paying?
Yes. We offer a 24-hour free trial with no card, one per household, and a refund within 7 days of paying. Start your free trial or read more about IPTV UAE.
